Traditional folk material culture of the Perechyn population and its environs
One of the current areas of modern ethnographic research is the study of material culture of Transcarpathia, including traditional economic activities, crafts, folk building and clothing. The Perechyn region, whose territory was influenced by different cultures, is no exception in this context.
Perechyn and its environs are part of the economic and geographical zone of the highlands. Agriculture and livestock have long been traditional forms of economic activity of the local population. The presence of the Perechyn basin and mountain ranges determined the structure of land. In the valley of the Turia River, arable land accounted for only 13%, pastures for 11.5%, meadows for 14.5%, and forests for 58.5% of the total land area. The leading role was played by agriculture, the importance of livestock was emphasized by the distillation of cattle over long distances, in particular to the Polonyna Runa.
